Description
A public green sits at the heart of the development. The green is enclosed predominately by residential with a mixed use focal point building to one end. The square is on the main vehicular route through the site, but the shared surface treatment around the green encourages traffic calming with priority given to the pedestrian. The green is a simple elegant space that provides a community focal point at the heart of the development. The design exploits the steeply sloping site to sculpt the land to create a sheltered lawn area for picnics, informal play and games. To the east and west planted banks provide visual interest, wildlife habitat and add a touch of colour. To the north a pair of semi-circular stone walls are cut into the bank to create seating and provide shelter. An informal pair of goal posts will provide opportunities for children to play whilst their parents watch from the seating areas. Rows of trees, including fruiting species, border the square and give it a sense of enclosure and add seasonal interest to the space.
