Description

The proposed development includes two new open spaces; the Carriageworks Public Space, envisioned to be a new hub for Stokes Croft and the local community for meeting, working, shopping, socialising and holding local events such as markets and celebrations; and the Residential Green which offers residents an alternative quieter space for relaxation. A shared allotment garden will encourage local food cultivation and accommodate facilities such as barbecue areas and a separate children's play area. In addition to these shared and public spaces, all apartments and houses have their own private amenity space in the form of balconies, terraces or gardens.

Planning History

The site has had a complex and troubled planning history, with several failed applications since it was last occupied in 1979. The consented scheme is the result of lengthy discussions with the council and a deferred committee date, which enabled further stakeholder engagement to evolve the scheme in line with the local community requirements. At the committee on 14 October 2015, Councillors responded very positively to the relationship that has been built between the design team and the local community and granted planning consent for the scheme.
