Description
The proposed residential access plaza adds to the overall quality of the public realm by responding to the open space facing Century House, in line with Network Railway's future development plans for the area. The chosen design symbolically directs and draws users from the street onto the site. The private amenity spaces provided by the winter gardens and the terrace planters of the upper floors enhance views from the neighbouring buildings and ensure residential privacy.
Planning History
The site currently hosts an out of use warehouse that, due to an advanced level of disrepair, requires demolition. Prior to CREATE's commissioning for the re-development of the site, 67-71 Tanner Street was the subject of two pre-application meetings. The 26 units scheme submitted for the first meeting, dated 23/06/2014, was challenged due, amongst other issues, to building bulk and mass concerns. A revised 21 units scheme was presented on 24/07/2014 without, however, appropriately addressing the over-development concerns.
