Mitchams Park, Cambridge

Mitchams Park 1 Lilywhite Drive Cambridge CB4 1GB

Description

The development contains a diverse range of beautifully landscaped open space serving as both recreational and visual amenity for residents and the public. At the centre of the scheme are the podium gardens -an acre of multi-layered landscaping overlooking the River Thames. Water features channel the flow around a central lawn forming a large pool before cascading down an impressive three-metre waterfall and out towards the river. The gardens reveal a selection of features, each with its own character and style, including an outdoor gym, a croquet lawn, a children's play area and spaces for picnics, reading or relaxing. The scheme also includes a jetty, which has been derelict and unused for over 40 years. During this time, the jetty fostered important ecological value, with several birds using it as a high tide roost. Currently housing the marketing suite, Barratt London placed an ecological garden onto the roof of the jetty, following extensive consultation with the local community. Designed by local river-related organisations, the jetty was fitted-out to specific requirements and includes steps leading down to the foreshore and canoe storage. When the marketing suite is closed in 2017, the whole building will be handed over to a local charity that will manage and run their projects directly from the facility.
