Kingston Road

Description

The public realm strategy makes the most of a long, narrow site creating pockets of open space along the street. A variety of uses are proposed. These include a street gym, community garden, linear children's play park and a new multi-purpose yard between the theatre and railway. These augment the amenity of roof terraces, residents' gardens and\r\nbalconies. In addition local people will be able to use some of the landscaped areas for growing.

Planning History

The proposals build on and link into wider strategies in Brixton. The 2009 Future Brixton masterplan, commissioned by Lambeth Council, identifies Somerleyton Road as a key redevelopment site. As majority land owner, the council wanted to maximise affordable housing whilst delivering great new amenities for the surrounding community, including the relocation of Ovalhouse Theatre to Brixton.
