Description

At ground floor level valuable amenity space is provided to the east fronted by the ground floor commercial spaces. Hard paved areas are proposed with clusters of street furniture. A series of birch trees within integrated planters are arranged to offer a soft boundary line between the scheme domain and the adjacent public footpath. This space has the benefit of extending the public realm and the opportunity to integrate the proposal with adjacent pedestrian routes. Additional private amenity space is provided at first floor between the two blocks.

Planning History

Planning permission was granted in March 2015 for a mixed use scheme including commercial space and 410 student bed spaces. The site was purchased in 2015 by a specialist developer and operator of student accommodation in the UK. A revised scheme including 611 bed spaces with commercial space was granted permission in November 2015 under a S73 application. The uplift in bed spaces and improved commercial space resulted from extensive engagement with the London Borough of Lewisham.
